No. Guards Red (also called Indischrot) is one of the few colours which does not have a clear lacquer finish and it is this which renders it more susceptible to attack by UV radiation to cause the notorious "pink" tinge.
The mirror housings are identical regardless of left or right hand drive. However, the mirror mounts are NOT.
The part numbers for the correct mounts for RHD cars are 965.731.241.01 (L) and 965.731.242.00 (R). The gasket between the base and the door skin are also unique - 965.731.247.01(L) and 965.731.248.00 (R).
For a LHD car the part numbers for the mounts are 965.731.241.00 (L) and 965.731.242.01 (R) and the gaskets are 965.731.247.00 (L) and 965.731.248.01 (R).
This was a known problem and was resolved by a re-design of the filler pipe. An updated design is available from Porsche.
Late in the model life of the 964 Porsche re-designed the wiper arms to incorporate a double spring, replacing the original single spring design. If you don't already have the double spring arm it's an obvious upgrade that helps considerably. New blades can also help a lot. Most recommendations are to use Bosch blades or Halfords own brand.
The pressurised hydraulic rams which hold the covers up lose their pressure over time to a point where they have insufficient power to hold the cover up. Replacement rams are available although they are a little awkward to fit due to the limited access. When replacing the engine cover struts PLEASE remember to cover the engine with a cloth or similar to avoid dropped clips from causing major problems.
From approximately 1992 the 964 was fitted with an emergency release cable. Access to the cable requires the removal of the inner wheel arch liner for the front left wheel. You should see a cable loop which, when pulled, will release the luggage compartment lid.
The
964 has had two types of engine release catch during it's model life. The
early cars (up until approx 1992) had a round receptical for the latch pin
and these cars DID NOT have an emergency release. The later cars, identified
by a triangular recepticle, do have an emergency release, located behind the
left rear light cluster. Similar to the front emergency release, the cable
loop should be pulled to release the engine cover.
There have been reports that the 964 door seals are not as effective as you might hope. The design was changed significantly for the 993 - despite the doors being the same design. The later 993-style door seals will fit the 964 with no other changes and seal the door more effectively to eliminate the wet door pocket syndrome.
Porsche body colours are defined on the Vehicle Information Label (VIL) which is normally attached to the underside of the bonnet/luggage compartment lid and to the Service Book. There is also a plate attached to the left side of the chassis inside the luggage compartment. The paint colour is given by name and code on this plate but by code only on the VIL.
The paint code is shown as Lnnn where nnn is a combination of letters and numbers which define the specific colour used for that car. A code of L999 indicates that the car was painted with a colour matched to a sample provided by the customer and there is no further information available.
A full list of colours and their relevant codes is available here.
Examples of many of the colours available are shown here.
This question truthfully belongs in the heating and a/c section but it could be considered a body question.
The rattle you hear is caused by the air diverter flaps in the rear wheel wells being flipped by the reverse air pressure in the cabin created by the shutting of the door. It only occurs if the mixer flaps are left in a certain position leaving an open air path from the cabin back to the heat exchangers. This explains why you may not ALWAYS hear the noise.
